Professor Gordon Wallace joined UOW in 1985 and has led the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute since 1990. He served as executive Director of an ARC Centres of Excellence – ACES (2005-22) and was the inaugural Director of the ANFF Materials node (2008-23).
He currently serves as the co-Director of the Beyond Science program an initiative that brings together early career scientists, engineers and clinicians to facilitate the translational journey.
He serves on the advisory board for research institutes and centres of excellence in Australia, Ireland, Spain and Finland.
He is involved in the design and discovery of new materials as well as the development of innovative fabrication methods and is committed to the use of fundamental breakthroughs in these areas to drive new technologies in Energy and Health.
He was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia 26 January 2017. Gordon is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. He is a corresponding member of the Academy of Science in Bologna. He was elected to the Royal Irish Academy in 2023.
