Orientation at UOW Bega Valley

We welcome all new students with Orientation at UOW Bega Valley. At these sessions, you'll receive important information about your course and handy hints for your first year at UOW.

The next full day Orientation will be for students starting in the Autumn Session of 2025.

9:00am to 4:00pm - Free lunch is included.

Ready4Uni Preparation Program

When: Wednesday, 19 and Thursday, 20 February, 2025
Where: UOW Bega Valley Campus, 176 Auckland Street Bega NSW.
Parking is available onsite or all day parking is available on High Street.

Ready for Uni program is optional, however, highly recommended.

What to expect:

Our free Ready4Uni program is for anyone who has not studied at university before. Designed to provide you with valuable skills to prepare you for completing a range of university assessment tasks, including managing online platforms, essay writing, referencing and much more! If you can’t make both days you are welcome to come along for one.

Free Academic Bridging Course

Commencing university means not only learning new knowledge related to your chosen discipline and future vocation: it also entails learning to research effectively, to understand assignment genres and expectations, to reference sources, and developing a repertoire of other important study skills.

This subject provides an introduction to studying at tertiary level and the key skills for academic success. You will learn about managing university systems, academic research, reading and note-taking strategies, essay writing and the different genres of academic writing, preparing for presentations and exams and managing workload. Through formative tasks, you will build an assignment and learn valuable tips and strategies that will enable you to hit the ground running.

Who should do this subject?

This subject is recommended for students enrolling in their first-year of university who want to ensure they have the core skills for tertiary study.

We are a hundred percent behind you and would love to share four top tips from your UOW campus to help you succeed

Tip 1: Enjoy the journey. Studying at University is a journey, that means it's absolutely ok if you're not certain about your career direction. Remember that there are UOW career consultants available to support you along the way, plus your time at UOW will allow you to explore new opportunities and experiences to help with these decisions.

Tip 2: Give yourself time. Creating a balanced timetable for your university studies and your personal life, is a great way to manage your time. Plan not only for classes, but for reading study and revision, and don't forget to include downtime for family and fun.

Tip 3: Your campus is a community. Ask lots of questions of your tutors, coordinators and local campus staff they are your support network and will go above and beyond to help you. Plus they have specialist knowledge about studying at a regional campus, and can point you in the right direction for academic or personal support. Also don't forget that your fellow students are a great resource for you to share information and reach out for support.

Tip 4: Tap into UOW resources. There are lots of a regional scholarships and extra funds available which can help you by resources and support yourself whilst you study. Simply ask the team at your campus, or search online for the scholarships that best suit your needs.
