In order to help you start this semester successfully, we strongly encourage you to attend our Academic Seminars at the Liverpool Campus, delivered by our Learning Skills Specialists  Dr Stephane Cordier and Garth Brennan. All these questions will be answered, and many examples provided on the day.

Learn how to structure, present and write an essay.

Week 4 - Effective and ethical use of AI

How to use AI in effective ways and what you should be aware of.

Week 5 - Referencing, citing, and paraphrasing your sources

Learn how to use and integrate quality research into your assignment.

Week 6 - Report writing

Learn how to structure, present and write a report.

Week 13 - Preparing for exams

Tips on how to memorise information and gain time when revising your course content.

About the workshops

Ace your first-year nursing assessments with this course-aligned workshop. These First-Year Nursing Workshops are tailored to student assessments and aim at teaching students the academic skills required to succeed in the first year of their nursing degree. These workshops will assist with the following skills:

Weekly workshop content

Week 2: Foundation skills: researching and referencing (SNUG107 assessments)

Build your research skills using databases and effective search strategies. Learn about the importance of referencing and how to use the APA7 style guide.

Week 3: Oral presentation and viva voce skills (SNUG107 and SNUG102 assessments)

Learn how to deliver a face-to-face group presentation and speak with confidence. Learn how to prepare for an interactive oral (viva voce) and demonstrate your knowledge during the assessment.

Week 4: structuring a response for essays and case studies (SNUG102 and SNUG107 assessments)

Understand the importance of structure when writing an essay, from introduction to conclusion. Understand how to approach a case study in an assessment task.

Week 5: paragraphs, cohesion and integrating evidence for written and oral tasks (SNUG102 and SNUG107 assessments)

Learn about evaluating resources and integrating evidence effectively in your paragraphs through paraphrasing. Learn how to use transition signals to create cohesion in your writing.

Week 6: developing a reflective response (SNUG102 assessments)

Understand how to write a reflective response for written and oral assessments.

Week 8: developing a resource – poster/video (SNUG107 and SNUG111 assessments)
