Career goals
I've always wanted to be a nurse. My mum's a nurse and my sister's a nurse and my mother-in-law's a nurse and my sister-in-law, but it was something I've always wanted to do. It’s always been a bit of a personal thing for me, and a passion of mine to look after people that are at their most vulnerable.
UOW Bega Valley
I chose to study at UOW Bega Valley campus because it is within my community, it was close to home and it was right near the hospital where I wanted to work. Studying at UOW has opened so many opportunities for me here within my own community.
Local cadetships
It was so valuable to do my cadetship locally. I was able to work in the hospital for one shift a week and I used the skills that I had learnt at university. Because I’m from this community, I think it is a lot easier to build a good rapport with patients as they feel safer having someone familiar, they might recognise looking after them.
Regional campuses
Regional campuses like UOW Bega Valley are important because they draw people in and provide a pathway for them to be able to work within their community. This campus opened massive doors for me, and we are lucky to have a campus here in Bega.
Serving her community
I do feel like I am giving back to the community. I feel like it is doing my small part to make sure our community stays healthy and strong. I feel proud to be a nurse and I couldn't have done that without doing my degree here at UOW Bega Valley.
