Overcoming challenges
My nursing journey has been full of challenges. I had to work hard and save money for five years to be able to enrol in the first semester of nursing school here in Australia. It has been my dream since I was a child. I already have a bachelor’s degree in nursing from my home country, the Philippines, but due to getting pregnant early, I was not able to take my licensure nursing exam. However, this did not stop me from continuing to pursue my dream.
UOW Bega Valley
I chose to study at UOW Bega Valley because of the incredible support and help it offers students. The manager is approachable and kind, which makes dealing with any issues or concerns much easier. Getting such high support and guidance throughout my course is a big plus and shows that I am in the right place to study. Plus, it’s conveniently close to my workplace, making it even more accessible for me.
Campus culture
The campus culture at UOW Bega Valley is friendly and supportive. It feels like a big family where everyone helps each other. People are encouraged to share their thoughts and work together. Whether it is group projects or campus events, there are lots of chances to make friends and have fun. Plus, in the nursing course, the teachers are very supportive, which makes learning even better. It is a place where everyone is welcomed and supported to do their best.
Living in Bega
I used to believe that Bega was a small town with houses spread far apart, and people might not be very approachable. But settling into living and studying in Bega didn't take me very long, thanks to the support I received. My employer, who has been very supportive of my studies, played a big role. Additionally, the manager at UOW Bega Valley was incredibly approachable and keen to answer all my queries about the University before I moved here.
Advice for international students
My best advice for international students considering this campus is to get involved with the friendly community here. Don't be afraid to ask for help and make the most of all the resources and chances you have. Making friends with classmates and teachers can make your time here even better and help you do well in your studies.
