A place for all genders
At the University of Wollongong (UOW), we are committed to providing a diverse and inclusive workplace and are proud of our culture that provides equal opportunity regardless of gender. We have adopted policies that support gender equity, and have developed workplace flexibility arrangements that support all genders and promote a healthy work-life balance. We are also committed to removing barriers to the selection, advancement, and opportunities for people of all genders in the workplace and have solid training packages in place.
UOW is dedicated to addressing pay scale equity and the measurement and eliminating of the gender pay gap. UOW aims to financially reward staff fairly and to eliminate variances in remuneration between genders, where the work undertaken is equivalent. UOW is working towards pay scale equity, and removing of bias from decision-making, at any point in the remuneration review process that may facilitate a gender pay gap.
This is reflected in initiatives aimed at ensuring like-for-like pay equity and reducing the overall organisational pay gap. UOW regularly measures and tracks pay scale gender equity and conducts extensive gender pay gap analysis by level, faculty, division, and school. Findings and recommendations are reported to the People & Culture Committee and University Council.
UOW is also taking a firm stance against gender-based harassment and discrimination, having implemented training for senior executives on issues related to sexual assault and harassment in the workplace.
UOW recognises the significance of equity and inclusion within its communities, striving to cultivate a diverse and inclusive culture that strengthens the university and celebrates diversity.
The Gender Equity Action Plan (2024-2026)
The Gender Equity Action Plan (2024-26) [Internal] articulates UOW’s desire to apply and promote equity of opportunity for staff and students under five goals. UOW recognises that gender equity is critical to our organisation’s success, and we passionately believe that companies and communities thrive with diverse perspectives and flexibility in thinking, leading to higher levels of creativity and innovation. UOW acknowledges and accepts the inherently different experiences of women, men, and gender diverse individuals. UOW is committed to promoting and achieving gender equity, and to addressing gender imbalances that exist across the University.
The Action Plan considers UOWs commitments, reporting and compliance requirements of the Workplace Gender Equity Agency (WGEA), the STEMM Decadal Plan, Gender Pay Gap reporting, Respect @ Work, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
