Disability terminology guide

"You Can't Say That!" terminology guide and educative resource

The University of Wollongong's upcoming guide on disability and neurodiversity emphasises the importance of understanding disability through both the medical and social models. It defines disability as a complex interplay between individual health conditions and environmental factors, highlighting that it encompasses a wide range of physical, intellectual, and neurological conditions.

The document advocates for a shift away from viewing disabilities as deficits to recognising them as part of human diversity, particularly through the lens of neurodiversity.

This insightful document is set to be released in early 2025.

Mary Barnes 1923-2021

Mary Barnes, Artist, living with schizophrenia 1923-2021
The smell of the paint was in me. Excited, absorbed, two hours had been as two minutes. The feel of the paint on my fingers, touching the surface, my hand in the flow of the paint. The feel of a curve, a line. I danced within as my fingers turned, in the paint, instinctively moving, up and down, in green and blue, red and brown. Mary Barnes
