Dr Paul Di Pietro

Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research and Sustainable Futures) 

Dr Paul Di Pietro serves as Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research and Sustainable Futures) at the University of Wollongong (UOW), leading UOW’s research and innovation portfolio, driving partnerships and sustainable futures initiatives. 
 
Dr Di Pietro joined UOW in 2018 to lead the Facility for Intelligent Fabrication and industry engagement activities within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences. He established the Industry 4.0 Hub on the UOW Shoalhaven campus in 2020 and was appointed Dean of Research Knowledge Exchange and Translation in 2021. He also leads UOW’s Defence strategy and serves as Chief Security Officer for the Defence Industry Security Program. 
 
Prior to UOW, Dr Di Pietro spent 15 years at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), holding senior leadership roles, including Head of Innovation and Integration. He has extensive experience in heavy engineering, research collaboration and industry partnerships, with over 20 published papers in welding technologies and competitive research grants from the Australian Research Council. 
 
Dr Di Pietro holds a PhD in manufacturing from UNSW, a mechanical engineering degree from UOW and executive education from MIT and the University of Cambridge.
