Purchasing materials
To ensure that the university is not 'buying in' new hazards, which may pose a risk to staff, students and visitors, there may be special WHS considerations to take into account when buying new equipment or substances.
It is recognised that as part of teaching courses or working in the University, dangerous goods such as moving plants and hazardous chemicals may be necessary to successfully complete a task.
All purchases of items with WHS considerations or requirements attached to them, must go through the process outlined in the WHS Purchasing Guidelines document. Identifying potential risks before purchasing any item is not only the least expensive, but also the safest way to ensure the health of all staff, students and visitors on any UOW campus is upheld.
