Zach Stewart is currently employed in the Future Student Engagement stream at WIC. Previously employed as an Aboriginal program support officer in the Illawarra health district, Zach was offered his current role at the end of last year.
Zach’s role as the Future Student Engagement Officer is centered around facilitating the ‘My Future Matters’ program. The program provides information to Indigenous high school students, ensuring they are aware of potential pathways to achieving their future aspirations. This program covers the Illawarra, Liverpool & Campbelltown, Shoalhaven, Batemans Bay and Bega areas. Zach also provides direct support to Jaime King, our Future Students and Outreach manager.
Hoping to continue to ease any pressure that high-school students may be facing, especially for those in years 11 and 12, Zach sees education and aspiration building as essential to students hoping to pursue tertiary studies:
“Without the information and encouragement I received in high-school, I know I wouldn’t be here. So, being able to let [Indigenous Australian high-school students] know about their options after high school and showcasing the stories of our current UOW Indigenous students is important. I have seen it change these young people’s outlook”.
