The annual 'My Future Matters' On-Campus Experience welcomed over 250 Indigenous students in grades 7 through 10.
This unique event, spanning three days, brought together 22 schools from the Illawarra, Southwest Sydney, and Sutherland regions. Students participated in taster sessions and cultural activities led by academics, community members, and Elders.
Throughout the event, students had the opportunity to explore various fields of study through taster activities. These included Robotics, Ecology, Marketing, Law, Engineering, Education, Chemistry, Nursing, and Medicine. At the end of each day, students were able to participate in cultural activities, such as weaving, damper making, bark painting, dancing, and a showcase of traditional cultural practices.
In total, the 'My Future Matters' program successfully reached out to over 1100 Indigenous high school students across the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Southwest Sydney, Sutherland Shire, and far South Coast.
Looking ahead to 2024, WIC is enthusiastic about deepening engagement with schools, further nurturing the aspirations of Indigenous students and showcasing the possibilities available for their futures at UOW.
