Recent Graduate, Adam Wingate, shares his experience of completing a Bachelor of Nursing. Adam, a proud Dharawal man, has always loved helping people grow. When asked what drew him to this degree he said:
“Nursing. I fell into by accident…I didn’t go to university until a few years after high school because I didn’t think I was smart enough… but a UOW sponsored post popped up one day and I thought ‘let’s apply and see what happens’.”
While at UOW, he found university an opportunity to consolidate and figure out his life goals. He says:
“I was doing well, and a couple people mentioned doing post-med studies and at the time I thought, ‘your bloody crazy!... it kind of snowballed into this, and here we are”.
While completing his degree, he was also working full-time in hospital security and part-time as a Lifeline Crisis supporter for Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander peoples. WIC helped him throughout his degree, introducing him to opportunities he didn’t know existed.
Adam aspires to become a doctor and to complete medical school in which he starts this year. But ultimately, he wants to grow and wants to help other people grow along the way.
Congratulations on completing this stage of your studies Adam, and to your aspirations in graduate medicine.
