What a massive year it has been for Indigenous Strategy’s newly established Creating Conscious Communities Team (CCCT).
The team have been busy engaging and working across all areas of the university and campuses, providing Cultural support and advice to UOW staff in both a proactive and reactive capacity.
In December, the team held an inaugural Creating Conscious Communities Networking event, which saw over 60 UOW staff, their partners and children come together. The event provided an opportunity for staff to make new connections, meet up with old friends and be better acquainted with other colleagues who worked alongside CCCT in 2023.
We hosted a family fun event to acknowledge that our partners and children are also a part of our learning journey, and therefore, form part our collective conscious community. It was great to see children and families engaging in the giant games and planting activity. Towards the close of the event, the team presented each guest with two Illawarra Flame tree seeds that were harvested from the garden at Woolyungah. Guests were encouraged to reflect on their relationship with Country, what it takes to grow and how one tree can provide so much for so many things within its reach. We look forward to hosting another end of year networking event in 2024.
