Unveiling local language on entry signs into the Wollongong campus
When travelling to the Wollongong campus you may notice some new additions to our entry signs. Earlier this year, UOW’s Indigenous Strategy Unit worked collaboratively with local Elders, Cultural Mentors and our Community Engagement Reference Group (CERG) to incorporate Yulungah (Welcome) across two of our campus entries signs.
We understand that relationships within our University setting are based on the notion of trust, respect, and reciprocity where consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are at the forefront.
UOW is committed to our advancing our reconciliation journey and expanding welcoming and inclusive spaces at all UOW campuses that celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and Country. Indigenous Strategy have also been working with the wider University to include UOW’s Acknowledgement of Country signage across all our campus locations.
