Anna Wright, a Jerrinja woman from Gerringong, is overjoyed to be a successful applicant of the “IPG Mediabrands Indigenous Work Integrated Learning Scholarship” for 2024.
Anna is in her fourth year of studying a double degree of a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Communications and Media, majoring in Marketing and Journalism. Anna chose to study these particular degrees to combine her passion for creativity and her skills with writing and attention to detail. She describes herself as someone who loves learning, always strives for improvement, and really enjoys her time at university. Anna affirms that she has big plans for her future. She has always wanted to work for a big company and embody being a “Girl Boss! (cringe, I know)” she says.
The IPG Mediabrands scholarship supports UOW Indigenous students in their final year of study who aspire to work in the media industry and additionally, includes a two-week internship at their Sydney Office. Anna explains that the majority of work in Marketing and Journalism is in the cities, so the financial support from this scholarship will help her greatly in her transition to work, especially when preparing to move from her home in Gerringong. The financial aspect of the scholarship will also have an “insane impact” on her future regarding paying off HECS while she is starting to build her career. This scholarship opportunity has alleviated a huge amount of stress off Anna when it comes to what she will do after she graduates. Anna says she “can’t wait to experience what working within a global company might be like and to meet new people and grow my professional network.” She also wanted to thank WIC personally for all their support and encouragement with the scholarship process.
