Hannah Diviney

2024 Young Alumni Award

Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of International Studies, 2022

Hannah Diviney is rewriting the narrative, shattering social boundaries and challenging stereotypes to foster inclusivity on a global scale.

Hannah is a passionate writer, actor, activist, and advocate for disability and women’s rights. In 2021, Hannah co-founded and became Editor-in-Chief of the social impact newsroom Missing Perspectives, with a mission to challenge the underrepresentation of young women in news and media worldwide. Her powerful voice also resonates in her first novel I’ll Let Myself In, a collection of deeply personal essays on navigating a world not designed for her.

Growing up acutely aware of the chasm between her reality as young woman living with cerebral palsy and on-screen portrayals, Hannah delivers much-needed representation through her acting. Debuting in the award-winning SBS comedy Latecomers in 2022, she has since been cast in a feature film and was part of Tommy Hilfiger’s Adaptive Fashion Campaign.

Hannah made international headlines when she called out ableist song lyrics of superstars including Lizzo and Beyoncé, while her global campaign petitioning Disney to create more inclusive heroes has garnered over 65,000 signatures worldwide to date. Her advocacy and determination are powerful catalysts for change, shifting society towards a more inclusive future.

Through her multifaceted career, Hannah has shattered societal boundaries surrounding disabilities. Her advocacy for inclusivity in media and society encourages future generations to embrace diversity and advocate for marginalised voices. Championing representation for people with disabilities, she empowers others to recognise and celebrate the value of inclusivity.

It is a privilege to present Hannah Diviney for the Young Alumni Award.
