A panel of expert law professionals will explore the opportunities and challenges emerging technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) present for law as well as the legal and ethical impact of these technologies.

Professor Dilan Thampapillai
Dean of Law, University of Wollongong
Professor Dilan Thampapillai is the Dean of Law at the University of Wollongong. Professor Thampapillai is an expert on private law and intellectual property law. His recent research has addressed the impact of artificial intelligence on copyright law. He is a member of the NSW Law Society’s AI Taskforce.
Carolyn Hough
Founder and CEO Policy Australia | Consultant to Netflix
CEO of leading policy law and consulting firm Policy Australia, Carolyn Hough has over 25 years of experience working at the intersection of technology and public policy, advising companies such as Netflix, Google, Amazon, Optus and the Motion Picture Association of America. Carolyn has recently been appointed to the Attorney-General’s Reference Group on Copyright and AI, advising the Australian government on the copyright issues associated with generative artificial intelligence.
Dr Armin Alimardani
Lecturer School of Law, University of Wollongong
Dr Armin Alimardani is a Lecturer in the School of Law at the University of Wollongong (UOW). His interdisciplinary research sits at the intersection of law, technology, science and philosophy. His publications and talks focus on the social, ethical and legal impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), neuroscience and genetics. Armin’s current projects include studying the way technology is shaping the future of the legal profession, the potential use of AI in sentencing and the use of natural language models in education and research.
Professor Markus Wagner
Professor of International and Comparative Law,University of Wollongong
Professor Markus Wagner is an internationally recognised expert in international economic law, international peace and security and comparative constitutional law. He has written extensively on autonomous weapon systems, the weaponisation of trade relations and the emerging field of cellular agriculture. Previously an academic in the US and the UK, Professor Wagner serves as the Executive Vice-President for the Society of International Economic Law (SIEL), has advised international organisations and government agencies, and regularly provides commentary for the media.
