Global Women in FINTECH

Global Women in FinTech Collaboration

Leveraging our global campus network, the University of Wollongong is initiating the Global Women’s Fintech Collaboration, focusing on networking, mentoring, and sponsorship opportunities.

Only 2% of FinTechs worldwide have been founded by women, while nine out of 10 firms have no women in the C suite. The problem of underrepresentation is compounded due to the convergence of two industries,  Finance and Technology, each typically dominated by men. There is a need to strategically invest in capacity development in a targeted manner, such as through education, networks, reskilling and redeployment

Led by Professor Grace McCarthy, Dean of the School of Business in Australia, and Professor Payyazhi Jayashree, Dean of the Faculty of Business, University of Wollongong in Dubai, the Global Women in FinTech Network aims to achieve these goals by highlighting the enablers and impediments for Women in Fintech.

The Network aims to create opportunities for women to develop the requisite skills necessary to be agentic leaders and users of Fintech and thus be equal partners in the FinTech ecosystem. The Network aims to showcase successful women in Fintech and provide opportunities for Women in Fintech to collaborate, and will draw on the expertise of UOW Dubai, Australia and India, as well as on the expertise of our alumni, industry partners and others passionate about gender equity.

UOW FinTech webinars

The webinar series will bring together experts and leaders in FinTech from across the globe. It will feature panel discussions with UOW's global FinTech experts and thought leaders, with contributions from alumni and practitioners worldwide. Additionally, the series will showcase the work of UOW academics based in Australia, Dubai, and India.

This series provides an interactive platform for discussion and the sharing of knowledge. Each webinar aims to highlight important FinTech topics, challenges and opportunities within the intersection of finance and technology.

FinTech is driving innovation in delivering and using financial services globally, both in business and the public sector. Fintech is also emerging as a key enabler of financial inclusion, potentially empowering women through access to financial services and digital financial tools. Fintech companies have an opportunity to leverage data and design gender-sensitive financial tools, products and services that allow women to participate fully in the growing fintech ecosystem.

However, evidence shows that women are underrepresented in Fintech. Only 2% of FinTech companies worldwide have been founded by women, while nine out of 10 FinTech firms have no women in the C-suite. The problem of underrepresentation is compounded due to the convergence of two industries, Finance and Technology, each typically dominated by men.

There is a need to strategically invest in capacity development in FinTech in a targeted manner, such as through education, networks, reskilling, and redeployment.

This webinar will feature a powerful panel of women who will explore the topic: Women in FinTech: Promoting Diversity and Inclusion.
