Established in 2017, the Centre for Contemporary Australasian Business and Economics Studies (CCABES) is a focal point for researchers of Australasian business and economic developments among staff in the Faculty of Business. The Centre’s focuses on inter-disciplinary research.

Failing to Fail: The Lost Policy Opportunity of the Pandemic

Short Abstract: International aviation is emerging from the pandemic like so many bears coming out of hibernation. Weak carriers should have failed, but many survived.  What were the survival strategies and regulatory responses?

Biography: Dr Ian Douglas is currently an Honorary Research Fellow with both UOW (BAL) and UNSW Aviation. Dr Douglas was appointed Chair of the Australian International Air Services Commission in May 2016, after serving as a Commissioner from November 2012. He stepped down as Chair in August 2021. Prior to academia Dr Douglas had a long career with Qantas Airways, holding senior positions in pricing, business development, and route management.
