Places at UOW Discovery Days are strictly limited and we will not accept any late or on-the-day registrations. This is due to reduced room capacities to ensure physical distancing measures can be met and to help students enjoy our campus safely. Any students attending Discovery Days must be registered for the event via the online portal by 5pm on Sunday 6 February 2022.

Once you register online, the portal will take you through the day, session by session. You will be able to choose the type of session you want to participate in. If a session is full, it will be greyed out and you won’t be able to choose it.

We have reduced room capacities to ensure physical distancing, so it will be difficult for all students to receive their first preferences for all sessions. Sessions will be filled on a first come, first served basis, so register as soon as possible.

Here are some tips to help you choose your sessions:

• Use your interests to help you make your selections and choose the best fit for you. Don't choose sessions just because your friends are going. Doing so may mean students who are genuinely interested in those areas of study will miss out – and it's not the way uni works.
• If you're interested in general information about student life at UOW, please attend one of the Student 2 Student panels or Unilife sessions so you can hear from our current students. Later in 2022, UOW will host information sessions in a town near you. These events will take you through our courses, entry requirements and other important details.
• Only attend the sessions you are enrolled in. This is an important part of our COVID-19 Safety Plan.
• Arrive at each session on time and do not leave the sessions before they are completed.
• Some sessions will take place in a functioning laboratory or workshop. You will therefore need to wear closed-in shoes to participate. Check the subject details as you register by clicking on the subject name.

UOW Discovery Days are COVID-safe events, so the first thing you'll be asked to do is check in to the event. The UOW rep will have a QR code for you to scan. There will also be QR codes at each location you'll visit throughout the day, so please check in using these QR codes too.

If your school is arriving by bus

Your bus will arrive in the UOW Western Carpark at around 8.30am on your Discovery Day. Once the bus parks, a UOW representative will get on the bus to welcome you and give you the information you need.

From the bus, the UOW representative will direct you to the location of your first session.

If your school is not coming by bus

If you are making your own way to campus, visit our transport information page to see how to get to and from UOW. Once you arrive, you will need to make your way to the location of your first session. Here, you will be welcomed by the UOW team and briefed on the information you need.

You will be required to wear a face mask while using indoor facilities on campus, you must bring your own face mask with you. We will have hand sanitiser stations across campus. You are welcome to bring your own sanitiser if you prefer.

You should also bring a water bottle and sunscreen, as well as a notepad, pen and your phone so you can take check in to each location using the QR codes.

There will be food for sale on campus, or you can bring your own.

Yes. Lunch will be from 50 minutes, refer to your timetable for the allocated time..

You can bring your own lunch or use the University's catering facilities. Prices are comparable to fast food takeaway outlets. Check our Eat + Shop website for an idea of what's available if you want to purchase your lunch on campus.

We will have social distancing marshalls on campus to ensure your safety. Please ensure you check in via the QR code at the food outlets on campus.

You will follow your own personal timetable.  Your timetable is emailed to you at the time of registration, please have it handy throughout the day. 

A printed campus map will be provided when you arrive on campus, or you can use our interactive campus map on the day too.

Your timetable is specific to you and the sessions you register in, so you won't be moving in a group with your school.

Your timetable will provide a venue for each session. The first number of each venue refers to the building number. The second number refers to the floor level, followed by the room number.

For example:

• Bld 20.2 (or 20.2) = Building 20, Lecture Theatre Number 2
• Bld 1.G23 (or 1.G23) = Building 1, Ground Floor, Room Number G23
• Bld 40.125 (40.125) = Building 40, Level 1, Room Number 125

UOW has made changes to Discovery Days in 2022 to ensure the is delivered safely and that participants have a great day.

• Everyone on campus is required to wear a mask when using any of our indoor facilities and hand sanitising stations are located across campus.
• You'll need to check in to the event as soon as you arrive and then check into each location/room/laboratory you use throughout the day.
• Social distancing marshalls will be roving around campus to make sure social distancing is maintained. This will probably be different to what you’re used to at school – so thanks for your patience!
• We are liaising with all attending schools on a daily basis. Each school has access to our Risk Assessment, which includes a comprehensive COVID assessment.

We have developed a range of COVID-19 plans, which prescribe safety measures for the event.

These include:

• Social distancing marshalls
• Face masks being required indoors
• Hand sanitiser stations across the University and at the entrance to each building and room
• Attendees required to sign-in and out of each session they attend
• Regular cleaning of all rooms. 

Bring a mask. You’re welcome to wear it whenever you can't maintain social distancing and they are required in all indoor spaces.
