Future Talk is a series of online information sessions designed specifically for a student's support crew. If you're a parent or carer who is navigating the HSC with your year 12 student, we've got your back.

What do the sessions cover?
Year 12 can be a particularly stressful time for students and family/carers. The pressure to succeed and make post-school decisions can be overwhelming for students and those who are trying to support them on their Year 12 journey.
Our sessions provide information about how to:
- Provide support during the HSC period
- Understand the various challenges facing your young person
- Understanding UOW degrees and programs on offer
- Financial considerations for commencing university ahead for families (Scholarships, budgeting, accommodation, moving away from home & more)
- Navigate higher-education options, pathways and the changing world of work.
- Understanding & de-mystifying the language of higher education
- The key trends & influences on the job market and industry currently
- Talk to other parents who are facing similar challenges
- Gain awareness on UOW support systems and services available for successful, accessible, and adjusted study ahead
- Gain practical advice about Early Admission, UAC, and university applications
- Opportunity to ask questions in a friendly forum.
- Receive a weekly email with tips, resources, and advice to help you navigate the challenges of the Year 12 year and beyond.
Program details and session information
The program consists of seven one-hour Zoom sessions. This program is completely FREE.
All sessions are delivered online via Zoom in an evening timeslot of 7 pm - 8 pm. Zoom links and reminders are sent out via email and SMS prior to the sessions.
All sessions will be recorded for participants unable to attend. If you'd like a recording for an event that has passed, please register as normal, selecting any session you'd like to receive a recording of, as well as any future sessions you'll be attending.
Session 1: Demystifying University & The Future World of Work

This session breaks down the language of higher education, offering practical strategies to support young people in making positive post-school decisions with confidence. We'll explore key trends in education and the workforce—locally, nationally, and globally—along with the impact of AI and emerging technologies on future career opportunities.
Session 2: UOW Degrees and Alternate Pathways

A university degree isn't a one-size-fits-all journey. This session will guide you through the diverse degree options at UOW, as well as alternative pathways into higher education. Whether a student is considering direct entry, bridging programs, or non-traditional routes, we’ll help you understand the options so you can help them find the best path for their academic and career goals.
Session 3: UOW Early Admission

We’ll cover everything you need to know—what it is, why it matters, and how to craft a standout application. This session will walk you through key dates, application tips, and what to expect.
Session 4: Financial Considerations, Scholarships & Accommodation @ UOW
- Monday, 11 August, 2025
- 7-8 pm
Understanding university costs is key to making informed financial decisions. This session will cover HECS-HELP, Centrelink support, and the financial aspects of moving out of home. You’ll also learn about scholarships, grants, and accommodation options at UOW, with practical advice on how to apply. If students are weighing up a gap year, we’ll discuss what to consider before making a decision.
Session 5: What’s Next? Successfully Setting Up to Start in 2025!

What an Early Admission offer means, what’s next? This session will guide you through the next steps, including how to navigate UAC, finalise your enrolment, and prepare for university. You'll also hear from UOW’s Accessibility & Inclusion, Wellbeing, and Safe & Respectful Communities teams on how we create a supportive, inclusive environment to help you thrive from day one.
