Each Let’s Talk About… roundtable will focus on one of the identified EDI groups at our University.
What the Roundtable series are:
- Opportunities to acknowledge and celebrate different diversity groups among UOW staff and HDR students, as well as their intersectionality
- Opportunities to meet and connect with colleagues informally, to share their respective lived experiences, and to learn about what enables people to be resilient and thrive in light of their circumstances
- Opportunities to discuss ideas and identify ways to further support the University’s progress toward an inclusive, respectful and diverse workplace
What the Roundtable series are not:
- Formal lectures
- Educational or professional development sessions
The Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (ASSH) is proud to host the inaugural roundtable event: Let’s Talk About … Carers and Parents
Data from the 2023 UOW Voice Survey indicates that more than 60% of UOW staff self-identify as a parent/carer and/or having other carer responsibilities. Join us for a panel discussion where UOW staff will share their experiences in navigating the complexities of carer's responsibilities and their professional commitments. Panellists will discuss their unique challenges, as well as the strategies and insights that have helped them succeed. The event will include an open Q&A session and will be delivered in hybrid format.
Official welcome: Katrina Gamble – Faculty Manager at ASSH
Conversation starters:
- Amy Chan – Acting Associate Dean (EDI) at ASSH and long-term primary carer of a parent with dementia
- Jess Finnegan-Kelly - EDI Workforce Officer at UOW People & Culture and parent and carer
