Making a gift

There are several ways you can donate to UOW. If you would like to have a confidential discussion with one of our team, please contact us directly.

Yes, you can. When you make a gift, you can request anonymity and we will ensure that your name will not be published or mentioned publicly. You can also change your mind at any time and update your preference by contacting giving@uow.edu.au

There are many ways in which a gift in your Will to UOW can support and make a significant impact to others. If you would like to discuss, in confidence, any aspect of leaving a gift in your Will to the University please contact us on 02 4221 5757 or giving@uow.edu.au

If you would like to support a program not listed on our website, please contact the Philanthropy and Impact Team on +61 2 4221 5757 or giving@uow.edu.au. We would be delighted to discuss your ideas in supporting research or furthering educational opportunities.

You can rest assured that 100 per cent of your gift will be directed to the cause* you select, as per your wishes.

*Gifts to Born of Steel are allocated to research and programs at the University of Wollongong, where the need is determined to be the greatest

Receipts and tax

UOW is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a deductible gift recipient, under subdivision 30-BA of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997. This means all gifts to UOW are fully tax deductible to you, the donor.

Yes, you will receive a tax-deductible receipt for donations of $2 or more to UOW. Receipts are issued in name of the individual paying for the gift (e.g., the credit card holder or cheque signatory). Gifts made online will be receipted automatically, and we aim to send receipts for other gift types within 1-3 business days.

If you have a recurring gift, you will receive a receipt at the end of the financial year.

Current donors

The UOW Philanthropy and Impact Team will share key updates and research breakthroughs via e-newsletters and an annual report on giving. We also share news and stories of impact on our website.

If you have your own scholarship, you will be in regular contact with a member of the Philanthropy and Impact Team, who will provide updates regarding any matter relating to your scholarship/s, such as advertising and awarding and any other progress.

Giving from overseas

Yes. You can give to any of our programs by making a secure gift online. Gifts are processed in Australian Dollars (AUD). International donors must seek their own individual tax advice for tax deductibility.

If you currently reside in the United States, or have taxable assets and business interests there, you can you can make a secure online gift in USD through the UOW USA Foundation.

The University of Wollongong USA Foundation (“Foundation”) is recognised by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Gifts to the Foundation qualify for a tax deduction for U.S. income tax purposes to the limits allowed by law.

The UOW USA Foundation Board will consider the suggested preference of donors but in compliance with IRS rules, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation maintains complete discretion over allocation of gifts to the University of Wollongong.

Other

You may be approved to fundraise on behalf of UOW. Please contact the UOW Philanthropy and Impact Team at giving@uow.edu.au and +61 2 4221 5757 to discuss the process, which may include completing an authority to fundraise.

Each year we hold a phone appeal to raise funds to support programs at UOW, such the Transforming Futures Scholarship Program and the Born of Steel Fund. These phone calls are also an opportunity for you to engage with the University and connect with our current students.
