The future workplace has seen fast-changing trends marked by technologies such as AI, the Internet of Things, as well as eXtended Reality (XR).
XRNet: Harnessing eXtended Reality (XR) technologies for a future-ready workforce
XR encompasses augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality. XR tools such as the Microsoft HoloLens and Oculus Quest headsets, have the potential to transform students’ and employees’ education and provide the opportunity for innovative new hybrid work models.
For Australia’s low STEM-trained workforce XR provides an alternative to encourage young Australians to pursue a pathway into STEM and prepare them with the skills essential for the future workplace. As digital transformation is a priority for The University of Wollongong (UOW), it is critical that UOW cements a united and collective group to reimagine how UOW can incorporate XR technologies for learning and teaching purposes, research activities, and industry and community engagement. UOW has recently established a research network called XRNet that can be leveraged to provide UOW a strategic advantage and significant contribution in this area.
