Key details

Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology

The Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology can be studied over six months full-time. This course runs in short 10-week trimesters, with two subjects offered in each trimester. You can also choose to study one subject at a time which is considered part-time which will take one year. The Graduate Certificate degree can be completed as a standalone or as a pathway to the Master of Financial Technology.

Master of Financial Technology (FinTech)

The Master of Financial Technology (FinTech) can be studied over 1.5 years full-time (three subjects per trimester). You can also choose to study part-time and work at your own pace. Students who are working full-time often study part-time, choosing to complete one to two subjects per trimester, taking four years to complete the full degree.

Master of Financial Technology (FinTech) Extension

The Master of Financial Technology (FinTech) can be studied over 2 years full-time (three subjects per trimester). You can also choose to study part-time and work at your own pace. Students who are working full-time often study part-time, choosing to complete one to two subjects per trimester, taking four years to complete the full degree.

Credit for prior learning

  • Applicants with a recognised bachelor’s degree in computing or related areas and a minimum WAM of 50% (or equivalent) may be granted up to a maximum of 18 credit points (CSIT881; CSIT882; plus 6 credit points of unspecified credits at the 900 Level).
  • Applicants with a recognised bachelor's degree in finance or equivalent may be granted up to 12 credit points of unspecified credit transfer at the 900 Level towards elective subjects.
  • Applicants who successfully complete the UOW Graduate Certificate in Financial Technology will receive 24 credit points of specified credit and can choose to complete the Master of Financial Technology in 1.5 years full-time (or part-time equivalent) or can choose to complete the Master of Financial Technology Extension in 2 years full-time (or part-time equivalent).
  • Students who have completed a recognised postgraduate subject/qualification in a related Business area from another University will be assessed on an individual basis.

The Graduate Certificate in Computing includes four core subjects:

  • Tokenised Assets and Decentralised Finance
  • Ethics and Regulation in FinTech

Professional WIL (Internship)

The elective internship is an elective subject for the Masters of Financial Technology and the Masters of Financial Technology Extension. This valuable opportunity offers students to apply classroom knowledge to practical, hands-on experiences.

This opportunity is competitive and designed for students who meet specific criteria established in partnership with our industry collaborators. Eligibility will be based on a combination of academic merit and the alignment of student interests and skills with the needs of our corporate partners. UOW India is building connections and establishing industry partnerships to assist students with finding internships and placements through facilitated on-campus interviews

Graduate Certificate and Master of Financial Technology (FinTech)

Study at the state-of-the-art University of Wollongong (UOW) campus located in India's GIFT City. Classes run 7 days a week, with the possibility to study outside of standard business hours to allow for flexibility. There will also be the option to study in an intensive weekend mode within the first trimester.

Along with in person learning, UOW integrates online learning into all of our subjects allowing for students to strengthen understanding and skills in multiple environments.

  • A recognised bachelor's or master's degree, or
  • A tertiary qualification with a duration of at least 3 years’ full-time equivalent plus 3 years’ full-time equivalent managerial/professional work experience.

Applicants with 5 years’ full-time equivalent managerial/professional work experience in finance will also be considered.

Learn from experts in FinTech

Dr. Ivy Zhou's current research focuses on the emerging trends in financial technology (FinTech), including manipulation in crypto derivatives and market quality of tokenized assets. Her contributions to the field of FinTech have been recognized internationally, with co-authored papers presented at multiple conferences in Australia, Korea, India, and Germany. Notably, one of her interdisciplinary FinTech papers on Web3 Technologies and Ecosystems was honoured with the Best Full Paper award.

She has successfully secured research (ARC Linkage) and teaching grants (DFAT) from Australian government, industry, and academic sources, aimed at advancing FinTech and addressing risks associated with digital assets. Her active involvement in the conversation on FinTech innovations is evidenced by being invited as a panellist to discuss Digital Transactions and Asset Tokenization. In addition, she supervises industrial HDR students collaborating with FinTech companies in Australia, further reinforcing her commitment to shaping the future of FinTech education.

Dr. Tina Prodromou's research focuses on Market Microstructure and Climate Finance. Her research explores high-frequency trading, price impact, price discovery, and informational dynamics of traditional and cryptocurrency markets. She also investigates the potential applications of blockchain technology, with a specific focus on the green bond market. In addition to her research, she will be teaching Data Analysis and Machine Learning in the Master of Fintech degree. Dr Prodromou has extensive industry experience in designing and developing software frameworks tailored to support financial analytics for hedge funds and trading houses
