Medical students flock to UOW for inspiration lecture
Medical students from across New South Wales will flock to UOW on Friday 29 August for the second annual ‘Inspiration Lecture’, which aims to inspire greatness in the next generation of medicos.
Host of ABC Radio National’s Health Report, Dr Norman Swan, Liver Transplant Surgeon Dr Kellee Slater and winner of the Australian Society of Magicians 2012 Championship, Dr Vyom Sharma will inspire students with insights into their personal career journeys.
UOW’s The Graduate School of Medicine and the Wollongong University Medical Student Society will host the event, which will be MC’ed by Dr Mark Dennis, co-author of the frequently used medical student textbook ‘Mechanisms of Clinical Signs’.
Wollongong University Medical Student Society President Jill De Coster, is excited to feature speakers who have come from a range of pathways in medicine.
“The idea of the event is to inform and inspire its guests to achieve their goals in medicine and to realise what a career in medicine can provide”, she said.
“This year our aim was to have a mix of speakers who can tell of their journeys both in medicine and in their everyday life.”
The event was initially thought up by the Wollongong University Medical Student Society as a way of showcasing UOW’s Graduate School of Medicine to the wider community as well as other universities.
Curriculum Manager Jodie Douglas said that the Graduate School of Medicine aims to equip its graduates with the skills to improve the health of patients in regional, rural remote communities within Australia and beyond.
“Our program is uniquely placed within Australia and we are honoured to host this event.”
Local clinicians and politicians are also expected to attend.
