UOW launches free online course in mathematics
UOW has launched a new online course, 'The Reluctant Mathematician', in partnership with its local library network.
The free four week course, which runs from 3-28 February, is timed to be completed prior to the start of most 2014 university or TAFE courses.
“We are expecting many soon-to-be uni students to use this course to brush up on their maths before uni starts,” Ms Sarah Lambert, Manager of OpenUOW, said.
The course consists of video tutorials and quizzes as well as the latest in support innovation – free online coaches and the support of the local library network.
“Lots of people find maths hard. Yet lots of people need to have a basic grasp of maths concepts to be able to peruse the career they want,” Dr Caz Sandison, from the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics, said.
Dr Sandison said while the School has offered a summer maths program for years, this is the first time is it being offered online.
Enrolments for the February cohort are now open. Visit uowblogs.com/reluctantmathematician
