UOW student wins inaugural scholarship for PR boot camp
Final year Public Relations student Toby O’Malley has been awarded a $3,000 scholarship by Hausmann School of Public Relations to attend a vocational boot camp in July.
Public Relations subject coordinator Sue Slowikowski said students were considered for the scholarship based on their performance and their zeal.
“Students were selected based on their willingness to go beyond subject requirements and show real enthusiasm and commitment to their studies in Public Relations,” she said.
Selected students were then asked to demonstrate their skills by preparing a creative brief for a client of Hausmann. Sarah Mason, General Manager of Hausmann, based in Sydney, said the quality of the applications made it a challenge to identify just one winner.
“Our team was very impressed with the professionalism and creativity demonstrated in the students’ proposals,” she said.
The boot camp will further add to the experience Toby has gained at UOW where he and his fellow students have been actively developing and implementing campaigns and events for real clients such as the .
“Vocational boot camp places a big emphasis on experiential learning so as to equip final year Communications and Public Relations students with the skills today's workplace requires,” Ms Mason added.
The scholarship, the first of its kind to be offered by Hausmann, was presented to Toby on 13 June by Faculty of Business Associate Dean Education Dr Grace McCarthy.
