Region’s high-achieving HSC students meet for scholarship reception
The region’s high-achieving Higher School Certificate (HSC) students will tomorrow (Tuesday 6 January) meet at the University of Wollongong for a special scholarship reception hosted by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings.
When: 3pm to 5pm, Tuesday 6 January
Where: Sustainable Buildings Research Centre, UOW Innovation Campus, Squires Way, North Wollongong
The Vice-Chancellor’s Afternoon Tea for high-achievers is an invitation only event for the top 5 per cent of students in the University’s main drawing area and celebrates their success in the 2014 HSC.
About 150 students have been invited to attend with students to be presented with the Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Award and the Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Scholarship of $3,000 for their first year of study at UOW. Students can also meet faculty staff and discuss other scholarship opportunities and advanced course options at the event.
The venue of the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre (SBRC) has influenced organisers to make it a sustainable event. Catering will feature 100% locally sourced produce. All waste from the event will be composted on site and guests will be invited to tour the SBRC building during the event.
Students will be coming from various regions including Wollongong, South Coast, Sutherland Shire, Southern Highlands and the Inner South and Macarthur areas of Sydney.
Students will be ‘locking in’ their Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) preferences for Autumn admission on Wednesday 7 January.

. . . and Options Day for potential UOW students
When: 9am to 2pm, Tuesday 6 January 2015
Where: UOW University Hall
Options Day is aimed at students who received an ATAR that was higher or lower than they expected and they are unsure what course to choose.
Academic staff from the University of Wollongong’s faculties as well as representatives from UOW College and TAFE Illawarra will be on hand to help students with their questions around choosing the right degree, modifying their UAC preferences, pathways to University, the UOW campus and facilities and UOW accommodation options.
“The aim of the day is to help students with their decision-making process at this confusing time in their lives,” UOW’s Schools Liaison Co-ordinator, Mr Patrick O’Connor, said.
He said the event was being held the day before students ‘lock in’ their UAC preferences.
