The Year 12 students getting a HSC advantage

For the past three weeks, more than 270 Year 12 school students have given themselves a serious advantage in preparation for the HSC year ahead and their transition into university.

They have been attending UOW’s Summer Master Classes and on Wednesday 21 January their efforts were acknowledged at a special certificate presentation ceremony.

The high-achieving students have been participating in the classes at UOW’s Wollongong, Shoalhaven, Batemans Bay, Bega and Southern Highlands campuses.

UOW’s Outreach and Pathways Manager, Kylie Austin, said that the five Summer Master Class (SMC) subjects were all designed to complement the current Year 12 Syllabus Outcomes and give the students an insight into university life.

“With access to our state-of-the-art facilities and outstanding teaching and learning services, these students are well prepared to launch themselves into the next few years of education,” Ms Austin said.

The subjects offered covered Business, Business Information Systems, Science, English and Geography. Students completed assignments, essays and exams and on successful completion of their chosen subject will be awarded six unspecified credit points to use in their first year at UOW plus an Early Admission Interview.

Summer Master Classes are now in their third year. Former In2Uni Summer Master Class graduate Angeli Jammal described the In2Uni Summer Master Class really as a “ big turning point”.

“I am sure I wouldn’t be here having completed my first year of law school without it,” she said.
