Uni Walk-a-thon to aid children in need
Kids’ Uni will host the inaugural Kids’ Uni Walk-a-thon at UOW on Saturday 12 September to support the local charity, The KidzWish Foundation.
Kids’ Uni and KidzWish representatives met at UOW today (1 September) to help promote the event.
The walk-a-thon was created by Kids’ Uni staff in order to bring the team, children and families together in an effort to make a difference in the lives of children in the region who are sick, have disabilities or are disadvantaged.
Starting at the UOW campus URAC hockey fields, the walking course will see participants and their families guided around a seven station course with interactive games planned at each stop.
“We’ve had such a fantastic response from our children and parents to the walk-a-thon, everyone is really excited to have some fun while having a bit of a campus tour at the same time. And, most importantly, helping out children in the community who need it most,” according to Naomi Sheridan Kids’ Uni Director.
“To have more than 150 registrations at this point, we’re thrilled.”
Children will be entertained with fun family activities taking place throughout the various locations of the walk including face painting, a sausage sizzle, market stalls, raffles and a bake sale.
The event will run from 9am- 1.30pm and costs $10 per child to participate. All adults are free. Registrations forms can be downloaded via unicentre.uow.edu.au.
The KidzWish Foundation provides a wide variety of vital therapy services and programs that help Illawarra and South Coast children as well as fun events to bring ‘love and laughter’ to their lives.
KidzWish events co-ordinator Beau Thatcher said it was inspiring to see such commitment from Kids’ Uni.
“In the past 12 months alone, more than 500 children have benefited from a KidsZWish program and 134 different conditions have been supported. KidzWish relies on the generosity of organisations like Kids’ Uni lending us a hand to continue helping Illawarra and South Coast children in need,” Mr Thatcher said.
