South Western Sydney Campus comes to life

UOW’s South Western Sydney Campus has come to life over recent weeks with new students starting classes as VIPs and future students visit the newly completed and opened facilities.

Just days after the contractors achieved practical completion and handover of the campus to UOW ahead of schedule on 8 November, the first students arrived for the UOW College University Access Program Orientation Day on 11 November.

The students who attended the orientation are now the first to be enjoying the campus’ contemporary urban learning environment as they attend their UAP classes.

When a delegation of Liverpool City Councillors toured the facilities during November they were reportedly impressed with what they saw, with one councillor describing the campus in popular local publication Your Liverpool Lifestyle Magazine as “an open, spacious flowing design of lecture rooms, kitchen facilities, meeting rooms and common areas that flow around a large roof top outdoor area.”

Future UOW students got their opportunity to visit the new campus on 21 November at a congratulations event for students whose applications for Early Admission have been accepted.

Around 100 students and family members attended the function which included a formal welcome and congratulations, inspirational speaker and informal social gathering. The event provided opportunities for prospective students to meet, experience the new campus and ask questions of UOW staff.

The campus is now being used to spread Christmas cheer with the outdoor area and common room facilities, which are available for booking for business or community functions, being used for Christmas functions during December.

UOW’s South Western Sydney Campus project team is now finalising the remaining operational planning, technical and facility preparations in time for the start of the 2017 academic year in February.

An official opening event is planned for the early months of 2017.
