UOW’s world rankings subjects success
UOW has enjoyed rankings success on the global stage with the official release in London over night of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
Measured against the world’s universities, UOW has recorded 19 rankings from a total of 33 subject fields in which UOW was eligible to be rated.
The sixth edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, released today on TopUniversities.com, features a record-breaking 42 disciplines, making it the largest-ever ranking of its kind.
The expert opinion of 76,798 academics and 44,426 employers informed the results, alongside the analysis of 28.5 million research papers and over 113 million citations sourced from the Scopus/Elsevier bibliometric database.
UOW Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Wellings, CBE, said the result confirmed Wollongong’s standing as a great modern university and would help in its overall push to reach the top 1 per cent of the world’s universities.
UOW’s 19 field rankings were: Engineering – Mineral and Mining (placed in the top 100 institutions in the world at 51-100); Geography (51-100); Accounting and Finance (101-150); Chemistry (101-150); Communication and Media Studies (101-150); Education (101-150); Engineering – Civil and Structural (101-150); Materials Science (101-150); Business and Management Studies (151-200); Earth and Marine Sciences (151-200); Engineering – Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing (151-200); English Language and Literature (151-200); Sociology (151-200); Computer Science and Information Systems (201-250); Engineering – Electrical and Electronic (201-250); Environmental Sciences (201-250); Economics and Econometrics (201-300); Mathematics (301-400); and Medicine (301-400).
UOW’s top 10 results on a national basis were: Materials Science (fifth in Australia); Chemistry (7th); and Engineering – Mineral and Mining (9th).
