Urban transformation focus of new collaboration
Academics and students to shape major urban transformation projects
The University of Wollongong (UOW) has today (Thursday 8 September) signed a landmark agreement to drive productivity, innovation and thought leadership across the development of urban policy and urban transformation projects.
The Universities Framework Agreement, which comprises UOW, UrbanGrowth NSW and seven other NSW universities, is part of UrbanGrowth NSW’s mission of transforming NSW’s urban areas, delivering a portfolio of projects that support the state’s 20-year growth strategy.
UOW Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Tim Marchant said the Universities Framework Agreement provides a platform for the University to assist with innovative approaches to urban transformation.
"UOW is committed to meeting the needs and demands of an ever-changing society and we understand the importance of delivering world class urban transformation projects,” Professor Marchant said.
“Now is a crucial time for us to get involved in urban planning and ensure growth in our cities is sustainable.”
The Universities Framework Agreement outlines six core areas of collaboration: Research, student engagement, learning events, industry interface, scholarly advice and the development of a City Transformation Data Hub.
“This is a fantastic outcome, and reflects the opportunities and interest around not only our Collaborative Learning program, but also our urban transformation projects,” UrbanGrowth NSW Chief Executive David Pitchford said.
“It is particularly exciting to be able to work with universities from all across the state, as every new partner brings unique ideas and perspectives.”
