Art on offer at annual Art Auction
On Thursday 24 August, authentic pieces of artwork were auctioned off at bargain prices at the University of Wollongong, with the added bonus of meeting the artists as well.
Now in its 13th year, the annual Art Auction is a four-day exhibition and auction, raising funds for the third year students of Visual and Media Arts, Visual Arts and Design, and Graphic Design up coming graduation exhibition.
“Not only is the Art Auction a chance for up-and-coming artists to test the market, it’s a unique opportunity to purchase artworks by emerging artists at bargain prices,” UOW Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Arts Dr Agnieszka Golda said.
As well as student artworks up for grabs, the exhibition is also peppered with works by established artists who teach Visual and Media Arts and Graphic Design at the University.
Third year Creative Arts and Design student and Exhibition Curator Zoe McMahon is a young artist and novice art collector.
“This year we have seen a mix of artworks covering painting, textiles, photography and sculpture,” she said.
"The works are absolutely brilliant, there are a few I’m eyeing up to bid on myself.”
The event raised over $6,000 for the graduating exhibition, held in December.
