Expressions of interest now open for two major building projects
Campus Master Plan to come to life with new state-of-the-art facilities.
The University of Wollongong (UOW) is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the construction of two major building projects on the Wollongong campus.
Bringing the Campus Master Plan to life, the new buildings will pave the way for excellence across life sciences, social sciences, law, humanities and the arts.
The Molecular Horizons: Life Sciences Building will encompass a new five storey building with approximately 7,000sqm of ground floor area separated across two wings.
The building will accommodate PC2 laboratories with modular, flexible and efficient ancillary spaces; Cryo-TEM and light microscopy suites; support laboratories; atmospheric chemistry and office accommodation.

The Social Science and Law, Humanities & the Arts project, the Western Building, will contain a new four storey building of approximately 10,000sqm, offering state-of-the-art spaces for a variety of disciplines.
The space will include student performance theatres and music studios; student film & screen production space; media arts, digital design and music; academic and professional work space; specialist simulation and WHS laboratories and informal collaboration and other support spaces.

UOW Vice-Chancellor-Professor Paul Wellings, CBE, said the projects will breathe fresh life into the Wollongong campus and provide students, researchers and University staff with world-class facilities.
“In line with the Campus Master Plan, we will be enriching the campus experience and catering for the expected growth of the University as well as the broader needs and vision of the region,” he said.
“With the development of the Molecular Horizons building, we will be confronting some of the world’s biggest health challenges right here in Wollongong.”
Tenderers must demonstrate a willingness to engage with local contractors and suppliers to deliver the project(s). Submissions must be lodged in accordance with the instruction as set out in EOI prior to 17 November 2017.

The $80 million Centre of Molecular and Life Sciences is UOW’s biggest ever self-funded research infrastructure investment, with the purpose-built collaborative research centre equipped with world-leading technologies and centred around the revolutionary Titan Krios cryo-electron microscope.
The new Molecular Horizons facility will form the hub of a truly integrated ‘UOW Science Precinct’ and will be co-located in a connected precinct with existing UOW research strengths in the areas of physical chemistry biological chemistry and medicinal chemistry, as well as cell, molecular and whole-organism biology in the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI).
The new Western Building will be a landmark development for the Wollongong campus, located adjacent to the campus Ring Road at the western end of the campus and accommodating the diverse functions of the School of The Arts English and Media (TAEM), the School of Health and Society (HAS) School and the School of Geography and Sustainable Communities (SGSC).
