Professor Julia Coyle appointed as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students)
Newly created executive role to focus on maximising student success.
UOW would like to extend its congratulations to Professor Julia Coyle on her appointment to the newly created senior leadership position of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students).
Professor Coyle brings 35 years of experience and a deep understanding of client centred service provision from the Health and Education sectors.
She is currently Dean of Students at Charles Sturt University (CSU), a position she has held for five years, with responsibility for overseeing the Division of Student Services. As Dean of Students at CSU, Professor Coyle has leadership responsibility for more than 140 staff in her division.
The newly created Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students) position reports to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), and plays a central role across the University in maximising student success and fostering student engagement, retention, satisfaction and exceptional student outcomes.
The role will strategically influence change and innovation in the delivery of high quality student support services to providing exceptional educational experiences; provide leadership in the provision of counselling and wellbeing, career and employability services, student support and transition, as well as a range of co-curricular activities at UOW domestic campuses; and support the participation and engagement of students in University life, and their tertiary learning experience, to develop to their full potential.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Joe Chicharo said the appointment of a Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students) signals and reaffirms UOW’s commitment to ensuring that student success and student experience sits at the epicentre of all that is done at UOW.
“Professor Coyle has an exceptional understanding of the strategic and operational aspects related to student experience and strengths in policy development and implementation,” he said.
“Professor Coyle brings a wealth of leadership experience and proven track record, and I look forward to welcoming her to this exciting new role.”
Professor Coyle will commence her new role at UOW in late January 2018.
