UOW offers first ACS advanced professional accredited degree in Australia

UOW is offering the first Master’s degree with an Advanced Accreditation awarded by the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

The Master of Information and Communications Technology Advanced course is available for applicants who hold an approved Bachelor’s Degree in ICT with a minimum two years’ industry experience.

Sixteen students are currently enrolled with many more expected as news of the course spreads.

The ACS designed the new accreditation to fill the gap in the postgraduate tertiary framework between initial professional practice and advanced studies.

Upon completion, graduates will be at the equivalent of level five in the Skills Framework for the Information Age, which corresponds to the ACS Certified Professional.

Head of UOW’s School of Computing and Information Technology, Professor Willy Susilo, said the course was aimed at graduates working in ICT.

Those undertaking the course benefit from in-depth study of organisational, economic, regulatory and socio-technical issues that arise in the implementation, application and management of IT.

“UOW’s Master of Information and Communication Technology Advanced will equip students with superior knowledge in the ICT profession as well as advanced skills in leadership and management, enabling them to be successful in the ICT industry and the digital economy,” Professor Susilo said.

ACS President Anthony Wong said he was pleased to announce the first Advanced Professional Accreditation for an ICT course.

“This new accreditation is a vital step in enabling Australia to increase the ICT skills of the future. The ACS Advanced Professional Accreditation has been specifically developed to deliver work-ready ICT graduates in Australia,” Mr Wong said.

The new accreditation complemented the current ACS offering by extending the reach into advanced postgraduate education.

“As the only professional association for Australia’s ICT sector approved to accredit ICT courses, the ACS is proud to have accredited more than 950 accredited courses since 1996. We are pleased this new accreditation will support ICT graduates and the future of the Australian workforce,” he said.
