UOW Shoalhaven campus responds to bushfire alert
Statement regarding bushfire in West Nowra.

Shoalhaven Campus to reopen as bushfire emergency abates
The University of Wollongong’s Shoalhaven Campus will reopen today, Tuesday 26 September 2017, with operations returning to normal after being evacuated yesterday afternoon due the bushfire emergency in the West Nowra area.
The NSW Rural Fire Service has since brought the fire under control and downgraded the alert level associated with this fire from ‘Watch and Act’ to ‘Advise’.
UOW Shoalhaven Campus staff will continue to monitor the situation and liaise with emergency services to protect the safety of students, staff and visitors.

UPDATE AS AT 2.49PM MONDAY 25 SEPTEMBER
The University of Wollongong (UOW) is currently in the process of evacuating its Shoalhaven campus as emergency services respond to a bushfire in West Nowra.
The UOW Shoalhaven campus will be closed for the remainder of the day. Any students, staff or visitors planning to travel to the Shoalhaven campus this afternoon should cancel their plans until the emergency has passed.

The NSW Rural Fire Service is currently responding to a bush fire in the vicinity of Filter Road and Cavanagh Lane, West Nowra.
According to fire authorities, the fire is moving in a North Easterly direction towards West Street and Shoalhaven Street, Nowra. Fire fighters are on the ground protecting properties in the area and telephone alerts have been sent out to residents in the area.
