UOW takes a global approach to life on campus

A colourful celebration of diversity and culture.

Debating globalisation, belly dancers, multicultural food stalls, live art, music and badminton on the Duckpond Lawn are just some of the highlights so far of the UOW Goes Global program.

Celebrating cultural diversity and providing a forum for sharing ideas in a globally focussed learning environment, the two-week program, which kicked off on Wollongong main campus last week, runs through until Sunday (24 September).

Students were last week treated to a sold out ‘Simple, Healthy and Waste Wise’ cooking class, free henna art, Australian bush dancing and Lunch on the Lawn with live band, Electric Korma.

This week’s line up of events includes; short films on the Lawn, showcasing global ideas and the multicultural community we live in, and UOW Enviro Day featuring an announcement about a plastic-free Wollongong.

The Moonlit Markets will also be held outside the library offering international cuisine, and the International Day of Peace will celebrate respect, safety and dignity for all, showing support for refugees and migrants.

Students can test their knowledge at an international trivia night at the UOW St George Hub on Friday, or feel the sand between their toes during a beach soccer tournament on Sunday to wrap up the festivities.
