Vice-Chancellor launches UOW College Hong Kong

Rebranding reinforces UOW’s commitment to bring outstanding university experience to city’s leading non-profit college

The Community College of City University (CCCU) has been officially renamed UOW College Hong Kong.

UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings CBE, who officiated at an event in Hong Kong on Saturday 18 November, said the launch of UOW College Hong Kong reinforced UOW’s commitment to bringing its outstanding university experience to Hong Kong.

“With the first UOW Hong Kong Graduation Ceremony, in association with CCCU also taking place, it is a fitting time to launch our UOW College Hong Kong brand,” Professor Wellings said.

“UOW is committed to maintaining and enhancing the existing curriculum for current CCCU students, as well as recognising future opportunities that align with community demands.

“We look forward to adding to Hong Kong’s prosperity by producing graduates who have a sense of commitment to contribute, who want to give back and to make a difference. Graduates who feel an obligation not just to themselves, but to society and who have a desire to transform the world we live in.”

UOW College Hong Kong has operated under the CCCU name for more than 10 years and is widely recognised as Hong Kong’s premier college, providing for more than 6000 students annually.

It offers a range of diploma, associate degree and top-up degree programs aimed at preparing students for further university education, enhancing employment opportunities and supporting personal development.

The Council of City University of Hong Kong selected UOW in 2014, after an international competitive tender process, to assume responsibility for stewardship and governance of CCCU from 2015, marking the start of a five-year transition towards full independence from City University.

UOW has a long established presence in Hong Kong that includes research relationships with leading academic institutions, professional corporate training for leading organisations and niche transnational education program delivery.

“UOW values the depth of our links with Hong Kong and we are committed to helping produce a highly educated and flexible workforce for the future,” Professor Wellings said at the launch.

“UOW’s Global Leaders Development Program, also known as GO-LEaD, will commence next year. The program will allow students to undertake a global degree and study, live, work and travel between our campuses in New South Wales, Dubai and Hong Kong.

“We are offering a globally unique undergraduate students’ program which will assist candidates with leadership potential to develop one of the most important leadership abilities of all – a global mindset.

“We are producing tomorrow’s leaders by delivering world-class education programs across Australia, Hong Kong, Dubai, mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore.”
