Popular Learning Labs head to Liverpool

Program aimed at high school students to be held at UOW South Western Sydney

High school students from South Western Sydney will for the first time in October, take on the challenge of an academic enrichment program at the University of Wollongong’s (UOW) Liverpool campus.

In the past at the University’s main campus in Wollongong, Learning Labs has proven popular with students living in Western and South-Western Sydney – but now the program is heading to Liverpool.

Students from Years 7 to 10 will be able to participate in Learning Labs being staged from 3-4 October at UOW South Western Sydney.

Learning Labs co-ordinator Shay Greig said the program was designed for students who are performing in the top 10-15 per cent in their areas of interest within their peer group.

“It’s aimed at those seeking a challenging and fun experience during the school holidays,” Mrs Greig said.

Workshops are held over one or two days and cover a range of disciplines presented by teachers with specialist training or a specialist interest in gifted education. Students can come from either public, Catholic, independent schools and also those receiving home schooling.

Programs cover an array of interest areas from dance performance and composition to solving crimes through forensic files.

Mrs Greig said it was important to enrol as soon as possible as the programs fill up fairly quickly.

Learning Labs has expanded over the years to now include students from Years 1-10. The October program for Liverpool will involve only Years 7-10.
