UK Super League champions visit UOW
University hosts Wigan Warriors for training session and campus tour.
Footy fever was rife throughout the Illawarra last week, with United Kingdom Super League World Cup Champions the Wigan Warriors taking on Hull FC at a special event at WIN Stadium last Saturday (10 February).
The event was the first time an official Super League fixture has taken place outside of Europe, with the Warriors defeating Hull 24-10 in front of a 12,000-strong crowd.
In the lead up to the main event, the University hosted an open training session for the Wigan Warriors at the University of Wollongong ovals on Tuesday (6 February), with an invitation extended to fans to come along and watch the action unfold.
On Thursday (8 February) a UK delegation, which included Wigan Chairman and Owner Ian Lenegan, was welcomed to to the Innovation Campus.
The delegation was given a tour of the campus before being shown through the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials Facility and UOW's start-up business incubator iAccelerate.
The visit came to a close with a rooftop function at iAccelerate, where three resident companies, who each have a vested interest in the UK, were given the opportunity to share their unique ideas in a three-minute pitch.
The visit formed part of a wider tour of the region that was led by Destination Wollongong.
