University of Wollongong ranked among world’s best for arts and humanities
Times Higher Education subject rankings place UOW in top 200 worldwide, equal 8th in Australia
The University of Wollongong (UOW) has maintained its ranking among the world’s elite institutions in the arts and humanities, being ranked in the top 200 in these disciplines for the second year running in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject.
UOW was ranked equal eighth in Australia and in the 176-200 band worldwide in the 2019 rankings by subject.
Subjects included by Times Higher Education under the category of arts and humanities include art, performing arts, languages, literature, linguistics, history, philosophy and archaeology.
The World University Rankings’ table for subjects uses the same performance indicators as the overall Times Higher Education World University Rankings, grouped into five areas: teaching; research; citations; international outlook; and industry income.
Executive Dean of the Faculty of Law, Humanities and Arts Professor Theo Farrell said that being ranked into the top 200 in the world for the second year in a row was a great result for the Faculty.
“This result reflects the Faculty’s commitment to world-class teaching, to innovation, and to research that has a positive impact both locally and internationally,” Professor Farrell said.
“Through our teaching we aim to produce graduates with the analytical, problem-solving, communication and team-work skills needed for the workplaces of the 21st century. And through our research we aim to improve and expand our understanding of human thought, culture and art.
“These results suggest that we are achieving those aims.”
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings are released annually and provide a league table of the world’s best universities.
In the overall 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings announced earlier this year UOW was named among the world’s top 250 universities, and among the top 10 universities in Australia.
Times Higher Education will release further rankings by subject over the coming weeks.
