UOW students can't stop the music in graduation showcase
SUPERSONIC highlights original works by final-year music students
Those with an ear for music will need to get along to the UOW concert of the year.
SUPERSONIC is the graduation showcase of major works by students in the final year of the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Music) program at the University of Wollongong.
Covering music genres from folk, classical, pop, hip–hop and heavy rock, the annual music show is the finale of three years of musical study by UOW students.
“The students this year have created a variety of original works that reflect their diverse musical interests,” said Dr Terumi Narushima, Senior Lecturer in the music program.
The UOW music course looks at instrumental and vocal performance, along with, music composition, production and recording.
“It’s quite a broad course, we give our students a well-rounded musical experience. When it comes to music we do a bit of everything,” Dr Narushima said.
Chloe Dicks, who is studying a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Music) and Bachelor of Communications (Media Marketing and Advertising), said over the three years the students have covered a lot of music theory, recording and gaining the motivation to perform.
“I’ve already got a graduate job in the marketing area, but I’m keen to use a lot of technical aspects from my music degree in my new job,” Chloe said. “Along with pursuing a side career project as a singer.”
SUPERSONIC promises to stimulate the auditory senses with passion and creativity.
