Transformation of Liverpool as innovative precinct advances
UOW and partners sign Statement of Intent.
The Liverpool Health and Innovation Precinct has taken another major step forward with UOW and other key signatories agreeing to a Statement of Intent based around the $740 million redevelopment of Liverpool Hospital.
The precinct is a partnership between UOW, the South Western Sydney Local Health District, University of New South Wales, Western Sydney University and the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research.
UOW’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Health and Communities) and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health, Professor Alison Jones, said the Precinct comprised community, government, education and business stakeholders collaborating to build on its substantial existing strengths in health, research and education.
She said the Statement of Intent would focus the parties to expand the impact of the Precinct across multiple sectors.
Professor Jones said the aim was to attract and secure additional investment, infrastructure, industries, talent and jobs required to drive further economic growth in the region.
The Precinct Steering Committee, which includes representatives from the different parties, is implementing a program of actions.
Professor Jones said the Statement of Intent establishes a framework for discussions between the parties which is intended to conclude with the settling of a non-binding Heads of Agreement. The Heads of Agreement will, in turn, inform commercial negotiations between the parties.
Professor Jones said the overall long-term plan was to advance the holistic development of Liverpool.
“We hope to achieve a sustainable, integrated and world-class health and education precinct that attracts world-class talent and caters for the future needs of school, vocational education and training and higher education students, researchers, health professionals, professional service providers, industry partners and the broader Liverpool community,” she said.
The parties are striving to create an environment for innovation and entrepreneurship that will provide opportunities for the next generation.
