UOW bustling with record number of Open Day visitors

More than a thousand apply for Early Admission

A record number of prospective students and their parents attended Open Day at the University of Wollongong (UOW) on Saturday 3 August.

The Wollongong campus was bustling with an estimated 9000 people at the annual event.

Prospective students and their families engaged with experts from all disciplines and study areas.

Some of UOW’s future students arrived resolute - before lunchtime, 500 people had applied for the Early Admission program and there were 1500 applications by the end of the day.

On an idyllic winter’s day, thousands took part in walking tours across the University’s scenic campus. Open Day participants also found themselves behind the scene of labs, workshops and galleries at UOW.

The University Hall filled with people eager to discover what UOW has to offer. Zones dedicated to Health and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics studies were a hive of activity, attracting an influx of potential students.

The Careers Service booth, where students met with experienced career advisers for one-on-one personalised consultations, was in high demand and the newly-introduced social and creative zones were also a hit.

Organisers were prepared for a landmark event, attaining a record number of registrations in the lead up to Open Day. More than 600 staff members, including academics were on hand to help. Those who registered were primarily interested in health and medicine, business, education, science and psychology studies. More than 10 per cent hailed from South Western Sydney, keen to know more about courses on offer at UOW’s South Western Sydney Campus in Liverpool.
