New horizons in education explored at NSW Council of Deans of Education conference
UOW hosts annual conference at Wollongong Campus
The School of Education at the University of Wollongong (UOW) is hosting the NSW Council of Deans Education (NSWCDE) annual conference today (Friday 20 August 2022).
The conference theme for 2022 is ‘New Horizons in Education’ and will explore how to support the next generation of teachers, innovative teaching practices and new research perspectives in education.
Federal Minister for Minister for Youth and Early Childhood Education, the Hon Dr Anne Aly, will address the conference (online). Delegates from all NSW universities, as well as representatives from the Department of Education, Teachers Federation, Catholic Education will attend the event.
Head of the School of Education, Professor Penny Van Bergen, said the conference is important because it brings together education providers, university faculties and schools of education across all of NSW.
“UOW is delighted to host this conference, it’s bringing together leading minds in teaching and education to discuss how we can support the next generation of teachers and other important topics such as the use of technology in education, new research and teacher burnout,” Professor Van Bergen said.
“These are issues that are central to the ongoing success of our schools, teachers and students.”
The conference comes at a challenging time for the education industry, with teacher shortages and burnout, particularly after COVID-19, at unprecedented levels.
“It’s a critical time for our teachers and this will be a great opportunity to look to the future and see what we can do to learn about the latest research and evidence-based teaching practices.”
The NSWCDE is the peak body representing NSW teacher education providers, university faculties and schools of education. The NSWCDE leads the delivery and development of education programs, partnerships and research and acts as an advocate for pre-service and in-service teacher education.
