Australia Day awards and honours for alumni and community members
Seven UOW alumni and three community members have been named in Australia Day Honours List
Seven UOW alumni and three community members have been named in the 2023 Australia Day Honours List –for their outstanding achievements and contributions to society.
Australia Day Honours List – Alumni
Robert Barrett Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community of the Southern Highlands.
Captain Anne Majella Andrews Ran awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) for outstanding achievement in the field of Navy human resource management.
Gregory Bowman Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the tourism and hospitality industry.
Jennifer Butters Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community through charitable organisations.
Michael Cassel (pictured above) awarded Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to theatre production. He was also recognised for his immense contribution to the arts, both in Australia and around the world, with a Doctor of Letters (honoris causa), from UOW.
Judith Fyfe Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community, particularly to youth.
Darrell Shephard Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to softball.
Australia Day Honours List – Community members
Dora Rognvaldsdottir Shoalhaven City Council Australia Day award for transforming people’s lives through community art and culture.
Kim Bell awarded the Wollongong City Council Lord Mayor’s Award 2023 for providing high quality, individualised learning programs for kindergarten to Year 12 students who've been admitted to Wollongong Hospital.
Shannon Fox awarded the Wollongong City Young Citizen of the Year Award 2023 for contributing to public safety at the beach.
Flynn Ogilvie awarded the Wollongong City Council Sports Achievement Award 2023 for his outstanding achievements on the national and international hockey field.
Sandra Pires awarded the Wollongong City Council Innovation Achievement Award 2023 for capturing Wollongong’s heritage, the Indigenous community and history through her award-winning Yesterday Stories.
Sally Stevenson AM awarded the Wollongong City Council Citizen of the Year Award 2023 for spearheading the campaign to create an Australian-first Women's Trauma Recovery Centre.
Margaret Bennett Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to medical administration.
Geoffrey Page Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to literature as a poet.
Patricia Ellis Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the Indigenous community of the Eurobodalla Shire.
