Global excellence: UOW ranks 167th in QS World Rankings

Rankings highlight UOW's global research and innovation strengths, commitment to sustainability

The University of Wollongong (UOW) has maintained its position among the world’s top 1 per cent of universities, placing equal 167th in the prestigious QS World University Rankings. Domestically, UOW has maintained its 12th place ranking, affirming its status as one of Australia’s leading research and teaching institutions.

UOW's strong performance in the rankings is underpinned by several key achievements:

  • Research Citations: UOW has seen a continued increase in Research Citation scores over the past five years, ranking 52nd globally and 4th in Australia this year, an impressive rise of eight places from last year. This achievement reflects the high quality and global relevance of UOW's research output.
  • Sustainability: The University has climbed 13 places to rank equal 62nd globally and 11th in Australia for Sustainability, a testament to its commitment to sustainable practices.
  • International Presence: UOW continues to excel in international engagement, ranking in the top 200 universities globally for two of the international indicators: International Faculty and International Research Network.

Acting Vice-Chancellor and President Professor David Currow said the rankings reflect dedication and hard work of staff across UOW’s network of campuses.

“The latest QS World University rankings underscore our ongoing commitment to excellence in research and sustainability,” Professor Currow said.

“The University’s remarkable performance in Research Citations is particularly noteworthy, highlighting the impactful research being conducted at UOW. These research streams address global challenges and contribute significantly to the advancing new knowledge.

“We are proud of our achievements in research and sustainability, and we remain committed to maintaining our high standards and continuing to make a positive impact on the world.”
